Funds flow to cyclone-struck schools in Fiji

OCTOBER 14, 2016 / Articles

We welcomed representatives of Inglewood Rotary Club to the Taranaki Campus to receive a donation of $5000 for Fijian schools affected by Cyclone Winston.

Earlier this year, Winston devastated the village of Tauva, the home of our Accounting teacher Mr Kiran Lal along with Maths teacher Mr Virendra Kumar.

Our Year 13 students started a Give A Little Page and $4800 was raised.

At the same time, the school donated 30 desks to Fiji.

Our problem was how to get the desks to Fiji. With the Inglewood Rotary Club’s assistance, the desks were collected and transported to Auckland by Hookers (without cost).

The partnership with the Inglewood Rotary continued with the club organising for the funds from the Give A Little Page to be forwarded to a Rotary Club in Suva. With their help, the funds will be distributed to Tauva College and Tauva Primary School.

Mr Lal has been in contact with the schools and we look forward to further information on how they have used the funds.
